Starting The Maker's Diet

My family and I was introduced to this book back in 2007.

Let me tell you, we would ALL be so much better off if we had stuck with it. Diligently.

Sure, we stuck with it for a while back then.

And we still adhere to some of it now.

But we have MAJORLY gotten off track and momma says IT'S TIME!

The Maker's Diet is written by Jordan Rubin who overcame major health problems by going back to more of an Old Testament biblical way of eating. My husband and I have witnessed first hand the amazing benefits to eating such a diet- weight loss, more energy, less aches and pains, and minor medical problems resolved.

I've talked about the Maker's Diet before, but I don't remember the last time we successfully completed the 40 days. I would begin

with good intentions. I would make it the first few days and begin to feel better. However, as my body was detoxing I would give in to the desire for sugary junk. Therefore, I would give up.
Not this time. It's crucial to the entire family that we stick with it for 40 days.

We began this yesterday and I will be posting periodic updates. As always, you can follow me on Facebook to stay more up to date.

The Maker's Diet is broken down into 3 phases, each about 2 weeks. The Maker's Diet, however, is more than JUST A DIET. It truly is a lifestyle, or SHOULD be a lifestyle, and it's not JUST about food. It's about removing toxins from the air you breath, the water you bath in. It's many, many principles that are talked about already here at Slowly Natural.

The first phase is always the hardest. You are quite limited on the foods you are eating, but as Jordan says in his book (pg. 199-200) "Since Phase 1 is designed to correct these harmful imbalances (endocrine imbalances, infection, inflammation, and digesive problems), it must temporarily limit even healthy foods such as fruits, whole grains, and honey while allowing for the liberal consumption of protein foods, vegetables, and healthy oils."

For instance, the only fruit allowed on phase 1 are berries, lemons, limes, and grapefruit, but you can eat any vegetable you want except for corn, white potatoes, and sweet potatoes.

You don't eat anything with added sugar in it and are limited to only 1 Tablespoon per day MAX of raw honey. You also avoid what is considered the Dirty Dozen. Now and forever.

1. All pork products.
2. Shellfish and crustaceans
3. Processed meats and hydrolyzed soy protein
4. White flour
5. Hydrogenated oils
6. Pasteurized, homogenized skim milk
7. White sugar
8. Soft drinks
9. High-fructose corn syrup
10. Artificial sweeteners
11. Artificial colors and flavors
12. Excessive Beer, wine and alcoholic drinks

In his book Jordan also tells you ways you can become sick and are worth noting since this book is so much more than a food diet. Some of the ways he mentioned are staying out of the sun (told you vitamin D was important!), going to bed after midnight (gotta get plenty of rest!), using/drinking fluoride (don't get me started!), be fully immunized (yep!), live in a toxic home and MORE!
Wish us luck and stay tuned for the next 40 days!
