How To Make Elderberry Syrup

There are a TON of elderberry syrup recipes out there.... and you can definitely play it up and add several other healthful ingredients. But I like to keep things simple and this recipe is one that I make, year after year, to keep my family healthy and to boost our immune system during cold and flu season.

Ingredients:
3 cups water
1/2 cup dried elderberries or 1 cup fresh elderberries
3/4-1 cup raw, local honey
(optional) 2 teaspoons cinnamon

I buy my cinnamon (real cinnamon) and dried elderberries from The Bulk Herb Store, but you can certainly buy yours from wherever you usually shop from.

Add the cinnamon, elderberries, and water to a saucepan.

Bring to a boil and let simmer with a lid on for about 45 minutes on low heat.

Drain the liquid and let cool COMPLETELY before adding the honey. This is very important so you don't lose any benefit to the raw, local honey!!!!

Once mixture is stirred together, pour into container or mason jar and keep in fridge. The honey will help preserve it, but remember that you have added no other preservatives so use within a couple of months.

Dosage:1/2-1 teaspoons for children for daily use, can be taken a few times a day if needed
1-2 teaspoons for adults for daily use, can also be taken a few times a day if needed.

*Do not give raw honey to children under the age of 2!*
