Lead By Example

Really and truly, leading by example is probably the only way to lead.

It's the first full week of 2015 and I am so ready to step it up and help change more lives, but I can't do that if I'm not doing the right things.

It's easy to talk the talk.

Workout 30 minutes a day, five days a week.
Eat clean, healthy, nutritious foods at least 80% of the time.
Watch your portion sizes.
Control your tongue.
Don't be mean.
Make your bed everyday.
Put your family first.
Limit screen time.
Read your Bible daily.
Pray. Constantly. About everything.
It isn't always to easy to walk the walk.

But if you want to be an effective leader, you have to do both.

Both.

You have to talk the talk AND walk the walk.

Both.

I began my health and fitness journey in March 2014 and it's only here NOW that I actually have my husband (semi) on board!

If you know my husband, you know he's a meat-and-potatoes-no-working-out-kind-of-dude. He played football from childhood through high school, so I know he's athletic. But it's been hiding for way too long! He's always been on board with what I serve, but has never really wanted to eat better on his own.

What changed his mind? Well, honestly, a visit to the doctor. A visit for a cough left him with an ultimatum from his doctor- drop some weight and lower his blood pressure by May- or the doctor would put him on medicine. Now.... if you know me, prescription medicine is NEVER an option- especially long-term like blood pressure medicine would be. Never. Nope. Not happening!

But after a visit to the doctor for sinus problems, I was told my blood pressure was a bit high. Not as high as my hubby's, but still not where it needed to be. In fact, the doctor's words were "lots of people younger than you are on blood pressure medicine".

Ok. First of all. I'm not very old. I just turned 32.
Second of all, why are so many younger people on blood pressure medicine?
Third, why is that okay?!

Now.... I didn't get the same ultimatum that my husband did, but I don't want to get there either.
Yes, my husband's job is stressful and definitely contributes to blood pressure, but it's time to get healthy.

Both of us.
We both have weight to lose.
And apparently we both need to work on our blood pressure.

What does that have to do with leading by example?

Hubby has committed to starting the 60 day Beachbody workout, Insanity, starting TODAY! And drinking Shakeology for those 60 days. I'm not where I need to be, but I've been leading by example and not pressuring. And at least he's willing to try now.

Want to have someone start working out? Lead by example.
Want to win someone over to a healthier eating? Lead by example.
Want someone to eat smaller portions of food? Lead by example.
Want to teach your children to control their tongue? Lead by example.
Want to foster a happy, loving family? Lead by example.
Want your kids to make their beds daily? Lead by example.
Want your family to come first? Lead by example.
Tired of screen time controlling life? Lead by example.
Want your kids to read their Bibles? Lead by example.
Want a more prayerful family? Lead by example.

I want to step up in 2015 and really lead by example. Forget a bunch of rules and regulations. Do this and do that. But instead, just living each and every amazing day to the fullest. LEADING BY EXAMPLE!

My Beachbody's Team "theme" for the year!

You can do it! Take it one day at a time, and you'll do great!

After dropping off 57 pounds so far, I finally hit "normal" on blood pressure. I was on meds for a while, it makes you sleepy and sluggish, and so went off of it so I wouldn't sleep all day. I started on them at 32. I'm 37 now.

You can do it--you're young! Just keep on going and you'll get to your goal. :)
